Starring a gender-queer duo miming the words to the song ‚Her Story’ from the New-Wave band ‚Flying Lizards’, the video clip contextualizes their lyrics on the economics of love within the history of sexuality and imperialism. It is set amongst the foliage of a 19th century botanical garden in a commentary on colonialism with its focus on money and desire and its obsession of the ‚other’ and male/female coding. Thus the video also references the Avantgarde filmmaker Jack Smith in a queer appropriation of gender and the exotic.
Ein gender-queeres Duo mimt die Worte des Songs ‚Her Story’ der New-Wave-Band ‚Flying Lizards’. Der Video-Clip setzt ihre Lyrics zur Ökonomie der Liebe in den Kontext der Geschichte von Sexualität und Imperialismus: Im Setting eines botanischen Garten des 19. Jahrhunderts produziert der Clip einen Kommentar auf die Kolonialismus und greift dessen Fokus auf Geld und Begehren auf, wie auch seine Obsession mit dem ‚Anderen’ und den Codes von Männlichkeit und Weiblichkeit. Mit seiner queeren Appropriation von Gender und dem Exotischen referiert das Video auch auf den Avantgarde-Filmemacher Jack Smith.
En faisant une appropriation queer de l‘exotisme et du genre, ce film se réfère à Jack Smith. En introduisant le business dans l‘amour et le glamour dans le business, il réinterprète une chanson du groupe new-wave Flying Lizzards. Cette vidéo replace des images de plantes et de fleurs d’un jardin botanique dans l’histoire du colonialisme, avec ses exotismes et ses catégories, ses codes de masculinité et de féminité et sa relation à l’amour et argent.
